Evanston FOIA Arrest Requests
Under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140), basic arrest data must be released within 72 hours. Evanston uses the NextRequest platform for FOIA submissions. You can access the portal at evanston.nextrequest.com. This system lets you submit requests, track their status, and get responses online.
You can also email FOIA requests to FOIA@cityofevanston.org. The first 50 pages of copies are free under state law. Additional pages cost up to 15 cents each. The department has five business days to respond. The NextRequest portal is useful because you can browse previously fulfilled public requests. Someone else may have already asked for similar records, saving you the time of filing a new request.
